Project 1: Experiencing Construction
(Experiencing, documentation and analyzing construction process)

Through experiencing to the construction site, this project promoted a better understanding of a construction procedure from design stage to the real life project. By knowing the sequence and coordination of a construction work, we were also exposed to different construction technologies and methods in response to present construction industry and local site context. This project also equipped us with analytical skill by identifying different types of building elements, construction processes as well as materials used through a careful observation at the site. As in a big group of 11, project works were distributed evenly and I was tasked to study on superstructure, particularly the supporting columns and beams. The knowledge was then demonstrated in documentation showing analysis in details through a series of manual sketches and drawing.

Moving on from documentation and analysis of construction process, the knowledge acquired from the previous project was demonstrated in this assignment. This assignment has also brought to realize the importance of interrelationship between design freedom and technical practice as technical knowledge is always viewed separately from a design. As an individual work, suitable construction elements, materials and details were chosen to meet applicability of the design as well as build ability in response to practical considerations. Not only understanding of structural elements and their application in construction industry, the selected construction details are designed as interesting solutions for the specific design project through manual sketches and drawings.
