BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 2 [ARC2513]
Similar to project 1, this project evaluate us on the understanding in construction works, namely solid and surface structure. Yoyogi National Gymnasium was chosen to identify different types of structural systems used in construction. An A3-size model that resembles the actual materials used was made to study in depth of the relations between function, material and load distribution. Also, a booklet was designed to analyze the success and failure of the model with the explanation of forces and structural movement experienced.
Project 2: Understanding Forces in
Solid Structure and Surface Structure
FUNCTION
MATERIAL
LOAD DISTRIBUTION
This project reflects the understanding of skeletal structure and the reaction of its structural components under loading. This fun yet challenging process of making popsicle tower structure implied the understanding of skeletal construction systems into the design. The model of our group was able to withstand a load of 60kg with the weight of 130g before it gave away and collapsed. Issues such as strength, stiffness and stability of structure including lodes of structural systems, forces, stress and strain as well as laws of static are then analyzed in a report.
